the mayor of Cholet, Gilles Bourdouleix, placed in police custody in Angers

Gilles Bourdouleix, the DVD mayor of Cholet, was taken into custody on Tuesday as part of an investigation into compensation.

This information from the Courrier de l’Ouest was confirmed at the start of Tuesday afternoon by the Angers prosecutor’s office.

Gilles Bourdouleix, the various right-wing mayor of Cholet, in Maine-et-Loire, has been in custody in Angers since 9 am this morning, as part of an investigation into unduly received compensation.

Its director general of services and its deputy director general are also placed in police custody in Angers.

“We went back to the town hall of Cholet to search, there had already been a search on August 18, we were missing some elements”, said Eric Bouillard, the prosecutor of Angers.

This placement in police custody follows a complaint from the Anticor association on June 24, 2021 concerning the compensation of elected Choletais.

The anti-corruption association accused the municipality of embezzlement (improperly receiving compensation) and embezzlement. Overpayment paid since at least 2009.

On August 18, a search was carried out in the town hall.

Guest of our regional edition on August 25, Gilles Bourdouleix then explained that he was not “personally targeted, until further notice “en specifying that, for him, these searches were quite “legal and even legitimate, in the context of these investigations which arose out of denunciations, I would point out from a deputy director general whom we thanked next spring (sic) after two years of almost total inactivity. To take revenge, he denounces by presenting things in a certain way “.

The 2020 municipal election in Cholet was canceled last July because of a disputed alliance in the second round between two lists opposed to that of Gilles Bourdouleix.

A new ballot, on September 24, allowed Gilles Bourdouleix to be again elected mayor of Cholet.
