Jamilah Habsaoui, mayor of Avallon, in Yonne, was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on Wednesday April 10, after the discovery of drugs in her family home.

The mayor of Avallon (Yonne) was imprisoned on Thursday April 11. On the market, many residents find it hard to believe that their elected representative could be involved in drug trafficking. In addition to her mandate as mayor, Jamilah Habsaoui works part-time as a pharmacy technician. The pharmacy was searched and nothing was found there. “We knew that she had a brother who had been convicted about fifteen years ago for drug trafficking problems, since then, we have never spoken about it again.“, assures Antoine Guibourt, employer of Jamilah Habsaoui.

The mayor’s brothers cleared her

She is being prosecuted after the discovery, in her house, of 70 kg of cannabis resin, nearly a kg of cocaine, 7,000 euros in cash and two gold bars. After 72 hours in police custody, the mayor of Avallon was indicted on Wednesday April 10 and placed in pre-trial detention, like two of her brothers and two other men. According to their lawyers, the two Habsaoui brothers cleared their sister, claiming that they had hidden the drugs and the bars without her knowledge in the family home.
