The mayor of Avallon (Yonne), Jamilah Habsaoui, placed in pre-trial detention on April 10 on suspicion of drug trafficking, was released from prison on Tuesday May 14 and was placed under judicial supervision, France Bleu Auxerre learned from from the public prosecutor of Auxerre, Hugues de Phily, confirming information from L’Yonne republicaine.

The information was also confirmed to France Bleu Auxerre by one of the elected official’s two lawyers, Me Florian Grigis, of the Auxerre bar. “This release was planned for a long time”explains the public prosecutor. “It intervenes with the agreement of the prosecution, according to a timetable initially fixed with the investigating judge and the judge of freedoms and detention”.

On April 10, five people were placed in pre-trial detention for “drug trafficking” committed in Avallon between January 1, 2023 and April 7, 2024, including the mayor of the town, Jamilah Habsaoui and her two brothers.

At least 70 kg of cannabis resin were discovered at the beginning of April in Yonne, at the elected official’s home. During the searches, in addition to cannabis resin, around a kilo of cocaine, two gold bars and as well as 7,000 euros in cash were found by the police, the Auxerre prosecutor told franceinfo .
