The mayor of Avallon, in Yonne, placed in pre-trial detention on Wednesday April 10, will spend a second night in prison. One of her two brothers, also indicted, assures that she was unaware that drugs were hidden in her home.
In Avallon (Yonne), residents are stunned to know their mayor is in prison. On the market, many of them find it hard to believe their chosen one’s involvement in drug trafficking. In addition to her mandate as mayor, Jamilah Habsaoui works part-time as a pharmacy technician. The pharmacy was searched and nothing was found there. “We knew that she had a brother who had been convicted about fifteen years ago for drug trafficking. Since then, we’ve never spoken about it again.“, assures Antoine Guibourt, employer of Jamilah Habsaoui.
On remand
She is being prosecuted after the discovery, in the house she owns, of 70 kg of cannabis resin, nearly a kg of cocaine, 7,000 euros in cash and two gold bars. After 72 hours in police custody, the mayor of Avallon was indicted on Wednesday April 10 and placed in pre-trial detention. Jamilah Habsaoui’s two brothers were also indicted and imprisoned. One of them clears her completely. Five people were indicted as part of a judicial investigation for drug trafficking.
