The mayor of Avallon (Yonne), Jamilah Habsaoui, as well as five other suspects were indicted, the Auxerre judicial court announced on Wednesday April 10. In a press release, it is specified that five people were placed in pre-trial detention, including the mayor, and that another was placed under judicial supervision. These decisions follow the discovery of 70 kg of cannabis and almost a kg of cocaine “mostly” at the councilor’s home.

The defendants were presented Wednesday before the judge of freedoms and detention. A judicial investigation for “trafficking and possession of narcotics” was opened by the prosecution. The elected official was arrested and placed in police custody for 72 hours, just like her two brothers. The prosecution confirms to franceinfo that the latter are among those indicted and are placed in pre-trial detention.

The preliminary investigation, launched in October 2023 of the drug trafficking leader, made it possible to “accuse two brothers of Jamilah Habsaoui as being able to habitually purchase and resell narcotics from their sister’s home”, said the prosecutor in his press release. In addition to the drugs, 7,143 euros in cash and two gold bars were discovered during searches of the suspects’ home.
