After 72 hours in police custody, the mayor of Avallon (Yonne), Jamilah Habsaoui, will be presented to an investigating judge at the Auxerre court on Wednesday April 10 with a view to possible indictment with the five others suspects arrested in a drug trafficking case, France Bleu Auxerre learned from the Auxerre public prosecutor’s office.

At least 70 kg of cannabis resin were discovered on Sunday in Yonne, at the home of Jamilah Habsaoui, as part of an investigation carried out by the gendarmerie research brigade into drug trafficking. The latter was arrested and placed in police custody. During the searches, in addition to cannabis resin, around a kilo of cocaine, a gold ingot and as well as 7,000 euros in cash were found by the police, the Auxerre prosecutor told franceinfo .

Two of the brothers of the mayor of Avallon are also concerned. Both men are known to the courts for drug offenses. They are suspected of using the elected official’s home to store the goods. The investigation will have to determine whether the mayor was aware. Jamilah Habsaoui, 46, former member of the PS, is also delegated regional advisor in charge of rurality for Burgundy-Franche-Comté, member of the majority supporting socialist president Marie-Guite Dufay.
