the mayor of Alençon Joaquim Pueyo is concerned about the increase in crack in Perseigne

Multiple police operations have seized 34 kg of cannabis, 580 g of heroin, 326 g of cocaine and 46 g of crack since January 2021 in the Perseigne district of Alençon. “We won’t give up”
said Sébastien Jallet, the prefect of Orne, yesterday, referring to the fight against drug trafficking in this district of 4,000 inhabitants. “Yes we must continue, have the will to fight against drug trafficking which plagues part of the neighborhood, which also takes hostage residents who ask to live quietly and in peace” supports Joaquim Pueyo, the mayor of Alençon. A struggle that results in some outbreaks of urban violence. The last episode dates back to the night of September 27 to 28
with 24 cars burned and clashes between the police and around forty hooded individuals.

The arrival of crack and its consequences

This fight against trafficking also involves prevention of a new phenomenon observed in Alençon, as in several medium-sized towns in France: the circulation of crack, nicknamed by some “poor man’s drug” because it is cheaper. “Crack is a very dangerous drug, obtained from cocaine mixed with ammonia or baking soda. The health consequences are terrible. It directly affects the brain, with behavioral disorders such as panic attacks, agitation, violence as well. It is a real poison, it must be said!” worries Joaquim Pueyo. A plan to fight crack will soon be launched in Alençon. One aspect will focus on prevention. “I think that with the prefect of Orne and the prosecutor, we will indeed launch a plan against this drug and which effectively destroys health. We must help consumers to get out of it. Reinforce prevention at the population level on the consequences of this drug. Because we quickly become dependent on this substance”.
