The mayor of Besançon (Doubs), Anne Vignot, lodged a complaint Monday, November 29 after the degradation of the statue of Henriette de Crans and the discovery of a swastika, reports France Bleu Besançon on Tuesday.
The statue, located in Chamars Park, in the city center, was damaged by orange paint on Monday. This bust had been unveiled ten days earlier, during the day of mobilization against violence against women, on November 20. Henriette de Crans was the first Franc-Comtoise burnt alive for the crime of witchcraft in 1432.
A swastika was also carved into a tree next to the statue. “The municipality will not let it happen” these kinds of acts. “No tolerance can be allowed for these symbols of hatred”, writes the City on Twitter.

Already on June 26, she lodged a complaint after the discovery in the city center of a swastika on a pedestrian crossing in LGBT + colors. The investigation is still ongoing. The mayor had denounced “a gesture of extreme violence”.
