The mayor of Agde, in Hérault, and a woman presenting herself as a “clairvoyant” were indicted on Thursday March 21, notably for embezzlement and corruption.
The mayor of Agde (Hérault), Gilles d’Ettore, was indicted on Thursday March 21 for corruption and embezzlement. Investigators are trying to find out if the elected official used public money to favor a 44-year-old woman who presents herself as a “clairvoyant”, by financing her work or her private parties. “Investigators are trying to determine whether, yes or not, this clairvoyant managed to have five members of her family employed by Gilles d’Ettore”explains Bruno Bartoccetti, from the SGP Police South Zone unit.
A well-rehearsed ploy
The clairvoyant’s husband was hired as technical director at the Agde town hall. To obtain all these favors, the clairvoyant said she was capable of communicating with the dead. His well-rehearsed stratagem consisted of tampering with his voice to pass himself off as the late father of Gilles d’Ettore. In police custody, the clairvoyant, also indicted, admitted the facts. As for Gilles d’Ettore’s lawyer, he does not understand his client’s pre-trial detention.
