Ferdinand Marcos has just been elected president of the Philippines. His father was ousted from power 36 years ago after a popular uprising. Marcos senior had been accused of stealing between 5 and 10 billion dollars from the country. The son has just been elected thanks to social networks.
Fernando Marcos Junior is the new Philippine president. He comes to power 36 years after his father, who imposed 20 years of dictatorship in the country. Citizens let their joy burst on the evening of Monday, May 9, when the results were announced. “BBM”, the nickname of the new Head of State, won 57% of the vote. “NOTWe believe that BBM will be absolutely different from his father“, testifies a Filipino.
The story ended badly for the father, who had to flee the country. In 1986, a popular uprising took place. The demonstrators had returned to the presidential palace. They had discovered the very large collection of luxury shoes of his wife, Imelda Marcos.
The Marcos dynasty is therefore back in power. Ferdinand Marcos, 64, does not really have a program. He owes his success to social networks, on which he talks about his father, while not mentioning his past as a dictator, corruption, political repression and mass crimes.
