the maneuver of environmentalists to dislodge the RN vice-presidents has little chance of succeeding

The president of the environmental group in the Assembly, Cyrielle Chatelain, wrote to her counterparts Renaissance, Modem and Horizons to ask them to repair what she calls a “original fault” : the election of two RN vice-presidents thanks to the votes of the majority. The Greens support where it hurts, because many Macronists have scruples about having respected the rule of distribution of positions according to the weight of each group. However, the position of environmentalists risks being in the minority on Tuesday September 26 in the evening when the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet will bring together all the group leaders.

Settling of scores and disaster scenarios

The fear of a giant upheaval has invaded the corridors of the Assembly. The majority really had the temptation to rethink everything: the two RN vice-presidents, Sébastien Chenu and Hélène Laporte, but also the finance committee chaired by the rebellious Éric Coquerel. A general settling of scores could be fatal to him. It’s a mikado game, confides a socialist. “If we remove a mikado we don’t know what happens next.”, to justify the lack of enthusiasm of Nupes to support the Greens’ approach. The PS does not want to lose its vice-president held by Valérie Rabault, and LFI does not want to lose the vice-president of Caroline Fiat in the battle either.

The Macronists don’t really want to try “10-cushion billiards” either. In the event of a new vote, there is a disaster scenario for them: if the oppositions gang up against the (relative) majority, the Macronists could end up deprived of vice-presidents. Conversely, the disaster scenario for the oppositions would be that the Macronists take all the positions. The status quo pushed by the President of the Assembly therefore has many supporters but the meeting risks being a little tense.

Faced with these maneuvers, the RN deputies are rather calm, with a response already ready if their vice-presidents were to be ejected. “It would be a booster for our European campaign”assures a leader, already ready to play the victimization card to the fullest.
