The Manche prefecture issued an order on Saturday, August 24, to prescribe emergency measures for the operator responsible for collecting dead animals that are not intended for meat production, reports France Bleu Cotentin. In several departments of France, including in Manche and more broadly in the Normandy region, the collection of dead animals is no longer normally ensured by rendering services.
“Due to an overload at the rendering plant in the Orne department, the operator’s collection sites, located in Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët and Néhou [Manche] are saturated”specifies the press release from the prefecture. The aim of the order is therefore to evacuate the stocks of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët and Néhou as soon as possible.
Normally, the collection is done by the operator “within two working days after the removal request”This has not been the case for several days in the Channel. “Collection operations in farms, slaughterhouses and other collected establishments will continue next week. The delay accumulated in certain parts of the Manche territory should gradually be resolved”assures the prefecture in its press release.
On Friday, August 23, the Seine-Maritime prefecture issued a formal notice order, first prescribing “emergency measures” to the operator in charge of the squaring for “remove all corpses and organic matter from the collection site as quickly as possible” and then prescribing to him “reorganize its support process” For “restore the situation”.
