The fire in the building caused 11 deaths on August 9, 2023. The manager of a gîte in Wintzenheim, in Haut-Rhin, was indicted for involuntary manslaughter, France Bleu Alsace learned on Friday October 20 from the public prosecutor’s office in Paris, confirming information from RTL.
This lodge was hosting a group of disabled adults on vacation when the fire ravaged the premises.
The prosecution indicates that the manager is “indictment for manslaughter by clearly deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or prudence“.

She is suspected of not having had authorization for her lodging, of not having declared “the destination of the building nor the capacity to accommodate the public when filing building permits or work declarations with the town hall“and for not having respected”the standards relating to fire safety applicable in this type of establishment“.
The manager’s company is also under investigation.”for involuntary manslaughter by a legal entity through a clearly deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or prudence“, specifies the prosecution.
The manager is placed under judicial supervision. She must provide “a bond of 15,000 euros“She no longer has the right.”to operate or manage any category of tourist residence, whatever its accommodation capacity, in its own name or in the name of a company“, adds the prosecution.
