The manhunt ended on Wednesday after the shootings in the New York subway. The man suspected of the shooting, was arrested and will be prosecuted for “terrorist attack”. 23 people were injured, 10 of whom were shot. The 62-year-old suspect was arrested in Manhattan following a report, according to New York police.
Already known to the police
He is known to the police, and had already been arrested 12 times in New York and New Jersey, including for “sex offences”a “flight” or one “disturbance of public order”, authorities said. It is henceforth “under federal prosecution for his act, a terrorist attack on public transportation”announced the federal police officer Michael Driscoll.
The suspect had a deleted YouTube page Wednesday morning for “violation of community rules” of the site. He has published multiple videos in which he discusses racial issues, insecurity in New York, especially in the subway, and attacks homosexuals, or the new mayor Eric Adams.
Risk of life imprisonment
“He will appear in federal court in Brooklyn and, if convicted, will face a life sentence”, said prosecutor Breon Peace. The authorities revealed more elements on the unfolding of the facts. The individual, who was wearing a gas mask, ignited two devices which smoked the car, then shot at the passengers as the train entered the station. 33 bullets were fired. At the scene, investigators found a handgun and three magazines.
