UQAC confirmed the rumor that the young man who was shot by patrol officers from the Saguenay Police Service (SPS) was a foreign student from Guinea, on its social networks, Wednesday morning.
“Following [sic] As the police operation took place near our Saguenay campus yesterday, we regret to announce that the person concerned was a student from our university who came from abroad. […] The police are continuing their investigation and we have offered them our full cooperation.”
The institution also recalled that a psychosocial support service was available to students affected by these disturbing events. She also recalled that the scene took place outside the campus, which is “a safe place.”

Initially, SPS police officers were called to intervene around 10:10 a.m., since a person was allegedly stabbed with a knife on rue des Hospitalières, in a residential neighborhood in the Chicoutimi sector.
At the scene, a man allegedly rushed towards them with a knife.
The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI), which was tasked with shedding light on this matter, revealed that the police first used an electric shock weapon (Taser gun) to subdue the suspect who was walking towards them to the waist. naked in the street.

Still according to the BEI, the use of the Taser gun would have had no effect on the suspect, who would have continued his way towards the police officers, knife in hand. He was then shot dead.
Filmed intervention
Part of the dramatic police intervention was filmed by a neighbor and the images send shivers down your spine.
In the short video sequence, we see the young man walking shirtless in the extreme cold towards the police, who are holding him at gunpoint with their service weapon.

In the images, we see the man walking with a determined step towards the two patrol officers, even though they are pointing their pistols at him.
Suddenly, he starts running towards the two agents and several explosions are heard. The young man then collapses to the ground, inert.

The man who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene of the intervention. His body was covered with a white sheet.
