Time change: the majority of French people want to remove it

It’s the same debate every year: should we stop changing the time? The vast majority of French people want to put an end to this measure, which has been in place since 1976.
Moving the hands back in winter, moving them forward in summer, has the time change had its day? “Frankly, if we could no longer do it, it would be so much better, because it’s unbearable, because it’s useless.“, according to one man. Initially, the time change is for a good cause. 1974, after the oil crisis, France wanted to reduce its energy consumption. At the time, President Giscard d’Estaing had an idea: move forward one hour to turn on the lights less in the evening and save energy.
A saving of 0.07% in electricity consumption
But is this always the case? The saving would represent 0.07% of electricity consumption in France, which is consumed, for example, by the city of Nîmes, 140,000 inhabitants. According to estimates, in 2030 it would be even less, the equivalent of the consumption of the city of Chambéry, with 60,000 inhabitants.
