The alleged perpetrator of the murder of Agnès Lassalle, a Spanish teacher in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, was placed in police custody. Aged 16 and unknown to the police, he claimed to have heard a “small voice” ordering him to kill his teacher.
Behind the walls of the Bayonne police station (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the police custody of young Tom P. continues on the evening of February 23. His personality is at the heart of the investigations. A mother who has known him since childhood describes him as “a kid who laughs, who has a sense of humor.” According to the public prosecutor of Bayonne, the teenager says he was harassed in college. Followed by a psychiatrist, he attempted suicide in October 2022.
A “little voice”
Tom P. had hidden a knife in Paper Towel, hidden in his backpack. “The respondent put forward a small voice that speaks to him (…) who would have suggested to him the day before to commit an assassination”, described the prosecutor. A brilliant student, Tom P. also recognized a “animosity with his Spanish teacher, subject in which his results were not good.” Criminally responsible, he could be imprisoned. “I ruined my life”, the teenager reportedly said after the fact.
