The government unveiled a series of measures to respond to farmers’ demands on Thursday February 1. Update on announcements.
Among the measures announced by the government on Thursday, February 1, to respond to the farmers’ movement, there is the creation of a safeguard clause to prohibit the importation of certain fruits and vegetables produced with insecticides banned in Europe. At the same time, Matignon wishes to enshrine food sovereignty into law. These two measures aim in particular to protect farmers from unfair competition. 150 million euros for breeding
In addition to the legal aspect, the Prime Minister announced 150 million euros for fiscal and social support for livestock farming. Other measures should be put in place, such as a major water plan, limiting the overtransposition of standards or even facilitating the transfer of farms. Finally, more anecdotally, a law to review the definition of neighborhood disturbance in rural areas is being considered.
