Before the match, OL coach Sonia Bompastor had called on her players not to look down on this last Champions League group stage match. Even though Slavia Prague, at home, suffered a humiliating defeat (0-9) in the first leg. Despite the warning, the Lyonnaises struggled to develop their game, and conceded the draw (2-2), Wednesday January 31 at the OL Stadium.

Everything had started well for the Rhodaniennes, put into orbit by Amel Majri (4th) who came to conclude a counter-attack masterfully led by Kadidatou Diani. A few minutes later, Franny Cerna stunned the 10,000 spectators at Groupama Stadium by equalizing against the run of play (9th), taking advantage of a risky exit from Laura Benkarth.

Eight times more shots for Olympique Lyonnais!

What followed was a siege of the Slavia goal, during which Ada Hegerberg’s teammates came up against a regrouped Czech defense which left little space. If OL thought they were going for a fifth victory in six matches in C1 this season, after a poorly repelled free kick and concluded by Vicki Becho (74th), they quickly became disillusioned. The double champions of the Czech Republic snatched an unexpected equalizer in added time, on a cross cut into her own goal by Vanessa Gilles (90th + 1). The Lyonnaises therefore conceded an avoidable draw, after having shot 32 times on goal, compared to only four attempts for Slavia Prague.

Despite this result, Olympique Lyonnais finished their first half of the European campaign undefeated and in first place in the group, ahead of Brann’s Norwegians. They thus join PSG, also qualified despite their draw (2-2) at Bayern on Tuesday, but also FC Barcelona, Benfica, Chelsea, Ajax and Häcken.
