OL got their Champions League campaign off to a good start. For their first match of the season in C1, the Lyonnaises, reigning vice-champions, easily beat Galatasaray (3-0) on Tuesday October 8. With this clear victory, the Lyonnaises are at the top of group A, tied with AS Roma, victorious over Wolfsburg (1-0).
At Groupama Stadium, Wendy Renard’s teammates initially dominated in the first half hour, before breaking through the Turkish defense thanks to. Kadidiatou Diani, header (34th), well served by Tabitha Chawinga. Ten minutes later, Chawinga, omnipresent, once again delivered an excellent cross, this time for Vanessa Gilles, who deceived the opposing goalkeeper (45th).
Dominant in the aerial game, Joseph Montemurro’s players scored a third goal with a header, thanks to Kadidiatou Diani, thus signing a double (77th). The icing on the cake, Ada Hegerberg, 2018 Golden Ball, played again for the first time with OL since the final of the last Champions League. Injured in the calf since March 11, she only played the last 10 minutes of this match. The Lyonnaises will face Wolfsburg on October 17 in a remake of the 2020 final, where OL won their seventh European title.
