The young Californian manufacturer of electric vehicles Lucid published last week the price book of its first model marketed in Canada. The Air, a large-format sedan, will try among other things to compete with the Tesla Model S and Mercedes-Benz EQS with a wide range of versions whose entry will be more affordable than these.
The base version of the Air will be priced at $ 105,000, which is a few thousand dollars less than a Model S Long Range ($ 113,600) and much less than the EQS ($ 144,200), without include transport and preparation costs. This newcomer will have a two-engine configuration to ensure constant-mesh all-wheel drive. The starting power is estimated at 480 hp and the estimated range is 653 km, a range equal to that of the base Model S.
Moreover, the bill for the large electric sedan can quickly swell if you want more range and power. The Dream Edition Range and Dream Edition Performance versions are at the top of the hierarchy with respective powers of 933 hp and 1111 hp while being able to travel 758 km and 836 km. Their price is estimated at $ 229,000. The charging power of 300 kW and an electrical architecture of 900 V can store 436 km in just 20 minutes when the car is connected to an ultra-fast charging station, a valuable selling point.
Vancouver first, then the rest of Canada
Air’s marketing strategy is based primarily on a first store which opened on October 16. Another location will open in Toronto next year, and Lucid is promising more announcements in 2022 to expand its presence across the country.
The first copies of the Air will arrive in Canada by the end of the year.
