The charm of this first feature film by Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet is largely due to the presence of Anaïs Demoustier. Even if the protagonist of this sentimental comedy bears the same first name as the actress (the filmmaker is amused by this possibility of amalgamation), it is indeed a composition here, which, it is true, suits marvel to the personality of the one we have seen in particular A new friend (Francois Ozon).

The one who, two years ago, won the César for best actress thanks to her performance in Alice and the Mayor (Nicolas Pariser) this time slips into the skin of a young woman in her early thirties. A veritable whirlwind wherever she goes, in all aspects of her life, Anaïs is nevertheless one of those people who never seem to manage to settle somewhere, neither intellectually nor physically.

Letting go of a fiancé who no longer pleases her, she also begins an affair with a more mature man of letters (Denis Podalydès) to finally take a greater interest in the latter’s wife (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi), an author whom she admire. We anticipate a sentimental jousting à la Éric Rohmer; the director prefers an energetic approach à la Jean-Paul Rappeneau, when The wild. This approach gives this feature film its originality. We also salute the way in which the relationship between the two women, superbly filmed, is portrayed.

Faced with so much impetuosity, and faced with a character that she could very well have embodied herself 20 years ago, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi offers calm, sensuality and restraint.

Launched last year at Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival, Anais’ loves is available on the Crave platform, as well as on video on demand.
