The Louvre Museum was evacuated and closed on Saturday October 14 for “security reasons”, after receiving a “written message stating a risk for the museum and its visitors”, according to corroborating sources at France Télévisions. In total, 15,000 people were evacuated at midday on Saturday, said the police headquarters.

“Checks are underway in the building”, adds the Louvre to franceinfo. These security measures take into account the context, the day after the Vigipirate plan moved to the “emergency attack” level. Evacuation is part of the usual protocol in this situation. On lines 1 and 7 of the Paris metro, the Palais Royal station is not served “due to security measures”.

The museum specifies on X (formerly Twitter) that it is closing its doors for the whole day. “People who have booked for a visit during the day will be refunded”writes the Louvre.
