A vehicle on fire forced the closure of five of the six lanes of the Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine tunnel on Friday evening.
A vehicle that appears to have been abandoned was found in flames in the Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine tunnel around 8:30 p.m. Friday. When the police arrived on the scene, there was already no one inside.
However, the fire caused damage to the structure of the southbound tunnel, which will remain closed for an indefinite period, while the MTQ assesses the damage.
Remember that the northbound tunnel was already closed for work. Thus, the Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine tunnel will be completely inaccessible for the next few hours.
“An investigation will also be made with the owner and the driver of the vehicle,” reported the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
