the long message and big rant from Chris Marques who no longer feels French

Emblematic figure of the show Dance with the stars

, Chris Marques is undeniably one of the most popular personalities on the small screen. Although he can be demanding of the candidates, the choreographer also knows how to show kindness. Accustomed to displaying a radiant smile, it is however a different side of the artist that Internet users were able to discover on social networks this Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

Devastated by the adoption of the immigration law, the text of which he considers xenophobic, the juror of the first channel took over his Instagram account in order to make a huge rant. “I am no longer French”, he wrote. “In any case, that’s what I’m being made to understand today. Dad is Portuguese. Mom is Spanish, I was born in France.”

Liberty, Equality, Fraternity”

Despite his French nationality, Chris Marques ensures “not having the right to feel truly French […] If this text passes, the children of immigrants will no longer be French, they will have to ask for it, to become so.

“It’s strange, because I only know the Marseillaise. The motto that drives me is ‘Liberty, Equality, Fraternity’, I am proud of this phrase”, he added. And to continue with a particularly moving sentence: “I am French. Yes I am French. My identity is linked to my country of birth. I should not have to ask to become French.”

“Ladies and gentlemen of the government, senators, deputies, members of the constitutional council, I beg you, do not touch the law of the soil. You will make children eternally foreign by establishing a conditional belonging to their own nation”. A publication which undoubtedly aroused strong reactions.
