Since the birth of Amandine in 1982, the first “test tube baby” born in France by in vitro fertilization (IVF), assisted reproduction has largely developed thanks to medical research: 10% to 15% of couples use itand nearly one in 28 babies was born in 2019 with the help of reproductive medicine.
The law itself has evolved: adopted on June 29, 2021, the bioethics bill authorizes female couples and single women to use medically assisted procreation and lifts the anonymity of donors.
Despite these advances, resorting to PMA remains complicated in Franceas the procedures to be carried out are long and tedious, and some even choose a PMA abroad.
What steps must be taken to perform a PMA? What are the chances of having a child? Why is it still a taboo subject? How much does a PMA cost?
