The hypothesis of a “lone wolf” is the most probable, after the attack which cost the lives of two Swedes, Monday October 16, in Brussels, declared the federal prosecutor of Belgium, Frédéric Van Leeuw, during a press conference. The suspected shooter was shot dead by police on Tuesday morning during his arrest in the town of Schaerbeek. A minute of silence was observed in the European Parliament. Gathered in plenary session in Strasbourg, the deputies of the 27 member countries of the EU rose for a minute of silence, around 12:45 p.m., in tribute to the victims of the attack which occurred Monday evening in Brussels.

Security measures remain in force in Brussels. In a tweet published Tuesday morning, the Belgian crisis center announces that “Security measures currently remain in force: increased vigilance and reinforced visible police presence.” They will be “reevaluated during the day”.
