At the age of 18 months, Giulia contracted the bacterium Escherichia coli by eating raw milk cheese. Since then, the 4-year-old girl has been more than 80% disabled. His mother testifies to warn about his situation and inform about the disease.
“Very slowly, she lost her sight, she could no longer see either, she could no longer sit”, says Carla, his mother.
After eating a piece of cheese, in 2019 Giulia contracted HUS, an infection caused by E.coli.
Due to a delay in diagnosis, the infection did not have time to be neutralized and spread to Giulia’s brain.

“Normally, I wouldn’t even have been able to buy this cheese, if they had done their job.”, explains the mother of the family, pointing to the cheese factory and the store.
In 2019, Giulia’s family launched a lawsuit against the cheese factory, store and hospital. In 2022, the procedure is still ongoing.
Every year, according to Public Health France, up to 160 children fall ill from the E.coli bacteria.
