The Trois-Rivières Lions struggled to get on the scoresheet for a third straight game and it was the Newfoundland Growlers who took the opportunity to leave the Colisée Vidéotron with a 6-1 victory, Friday night.
The Montreal Canadiens’ school club in the ECHL is going through more difficult times, with only three goals in its last three games. It’s not just the attack that is down, since goalkeepers Tristan Bérubé and Carmine-Anthony Pagliarulo had a lot of trouble.
Bérubé started the game between the posts, but was pulled from the game after allowing three goals on 12 shots in the first period. His replacement did little better, yielding three times on 17 shots.
Todd Skirving scored twice for Newfoundland, while Ryan Chyzowski and Noel Hoefenmayer finished their night’s work with three points apiece.
Hayden Shaw and Cédric Desruisseaux were back in Éric Bélanger’s squad after respective stints with the Manitoba Moose and the Laval Rocket in the American League. These were the cause of the Lions’ lack of attack in this match, combining their efforts to allow the defender to score at the end of the second period.
It’s pretty tough for the Lions against the Growlers this season. The latter have won five of the seven confrontations between the two clubs and retain second place in the North section, five points ahead of the representatives of Mauricie.
Trois-Rivières will have to quickly find a solution since the Growlers will again be the visitors on Saturday and Sunday.
