The question of the limitation period in the case of the disappearance of Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti in May 1986 will be examined during a new hearing on May 24 before the investigating chamber of the Lyon Court of Appeal, reported Tuesday May 6 France Bleu Isère.

On May 24, at 11 a.m., the hearing before the Investigation Chamber of the Lyon Court of Appeal will open and the magistrates will have to rule on whether or not the acts alleged against Yves Chatain are time-barred.

The 57-year-old man, who confessed in 2022 to the murder of a young woman, Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti dating back to 1986, was released on December 7 after a ruling from the Court of Cassation going in the direction of the statute of limitations.

Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti, aged 25 and mother of two children, disappeared on May 22, 1986 while distributing newspapers in Pontcharra, in Isère. A neighbor was suspected then released and the investigation ended in dismissal in November 1987. But the file of this emblematic closed case (cold case) rebounded in May 2022 with the arrest of this neighbor, followed of his indictment and his placement in pre-trial detention. He ended up admitting to having killed Ms. Bonfanti and told him where to find the victim’s remains.
