Iceland is experiencing a lull after the impressive eruptions in the West of the country in Grindavík.
Like a fireworks display entirely orchestrated by nature. The eruption of the volcano is enhanced by the Northern Lights in the Icelandic night. The glowing lava and the luminescent green respond to each other in an unreal-looking painting. The volcanoes, only about forty kilometers from the capital, had remained dormant for eight centuries.
400 residents evacuated
The eruptions have been occurring one after the other since December. 4,000 residents were evacuated from the village of Grindavík. Molten lava destroyed some houses in early January. Three weeks ago, the main road leading to the town was covered by a slide. A dike built in emergency but still allowed to protect a power station and a spa. No infrastructure is threatened this time, the level of vigilance has been lowered.
