Back after 21 years of absence, the Lensois face Sevilla FC (group B), for their first match of the 2023-24 Champions League, Wednesday at 9 p.m., at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.
After a magnificent Ligue 1 season, some executives of the group left the Pas-de-Calais club for new adventures, such as its captain Seko Fofana and its top scorer, Loïs Openda (21 goals). And since then, Racing has not been able to do it. Saturday, in their Bollaert-Delelis stadium, Florian Sotoca and his teammates suffered a fourth defeat in five games against promoted Metz.
A catastrophic start to the season which does not bode well for their entry into the most demanding competition in Europe. Especially since Sevilla FC, which is not off to a brilliant start either, has just got back on track after its victory against Las Palmas (1-0) on Saturday.
