The Legion of Honor was withdrawn from the former leader of the socialists in Marseille Jean-Noël Guérini, France Bleu Provence reported this Wednesday. The decree of the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor, “noting a legal exclusion of a member of the Legion of Honor” was taken last Friday and published Wednesday June 19 at Official newspaper. The former senator was definitively convicted last March in a case of rigged markets.

“By decree of the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor dated 14 June 2024, after advice from the Council of the Order of the Legion of Honor, is noted with effect from March 30, 2022 the legal exclusion from the national order of the Legion of Honor of Mr. Jean-Noël Guérini”indicates the decree. “This exclusion results in the definitive deprivation of the exercise of the rights and prerogatives attached to the status of member of the Legion of Honor as well as the prohibition of wearing the insignia of any French or foreign decoration belonging to the Grand Chancellery of the Legion of honor.” Jean-Noël Guérini was elevated to the rank of Knight on December 31, 1997, specifies France Bleu.

On March 13, the Court of Cassation confirmed the conviction of Jean-Noël Guérini to three years in prison, including 18 months suspended, and five years of ineligibility for rigging public markets. A few days after this final conviction, Jean-Noël Guérini resigned from his mandate as senator.
