The Toyota Land Cruiser, this large and robust SUV which had been withdrawn from the Canadian market in 1996 (in favor of the Lexus LX), will finally return to us. The manufacturer confirmed the news on Thursday by issuing a very brief press release.
” 65 years of history… with such a heritage, you can decide to slow down or reinvent yourself. Obviously, we opted for the second option. Further details will follow. »
The image released by Toyota to whet our appetites shows the silhouette of two vehicles: the next-generation Land Cruiser on the right and the original FJ40 Land Cruiser on the left.
Beware, however. The Land Cruiser destined for us will not be based directly on the Lexus LX. It will be an even more muscular and adventurous SUV similar to the new 2024 Lexus GX unveiled in June. Elsewhere in the world, this model will be known as the Land Cruiser Prado.
Various retro touches are rumored to set the North American Land Cruiser apart. For example, we should find circular headlights reminiscent of the FJ40. This was also done by the FJ Cruiser.
The vehicle will use Toyota’s TNGA-F architecture, designed for off-road-oriented pickup trucks and large SUVs (Tundra, Tacoma and Sequoia among others), as well as a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6. This engine should deliver 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque via a ten-speed automatic transmission, enough to tow up to 8,000 pounds. The Tundra’s i-Force Max hybrid powertrain could also be on the menu, with 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque.
Will it be for the 2024 or 2025 model year? An official unveiling will occur later this year. Keep in touch to learn all about the new Toyota Land Cruiser!
