The government is expected to propose the candidacy of lawyer Marc-André Dowd for the post of Public Protector on Thursday, learned The duty.
The government’s suggestion will have to receive the approval of two-thirds of the deputies in the National Assembly.
Marie Rinfret has been working as Public Protector since March 2017.
Just before the start of question period on Thursday morning, the president of the National Assembly, François Paradis, announced the possibility that a two-thirds vote would be held thereafter, without further details.
According to three sources who asked to remain anonymous, the government is expected to nominate Mr Dowd to succeed Ms Rinfret.
