The leader of the “Farfadaas” must return to court on Thursday

One of the leaders of the “Farfadaas” anti-sanitary measures group, arrested over the weekend, must clarify the issue of legal representation, the Ontario Court has ruled.

Steeve “l’Artiss” Charland, a leading figure in the conspiratorial milieu and former leader of the identity group La Meute, appeared briefly by videoconference on Tuesday.

According to the “Ottawa Citizen”, the 48-year-old Quebecer from Greenville appeared in court without the support of a lawyer. A pro-convoy activist, Jane Scharf, however, intervened to indicate that she intended to offer her paralegal advice to Mr. Charland, sowing some confusion during the hearing.

The latter also suggested that the “Farfadaa” could decide to represent itself during its release hearing, which is to be held Thursday in the presence of an interpreter.

The court has asked Steeve Charland to sort out the question of his legal representation by the time he returns to court.

The man is charged with mischief and counseling others to commit mischief in connection with his role in the occupation of downtown Ottawa. He was arrested Saturday by the Ontario Provincial Police in the Vankleek Hill area, near the border with Quebec.
