The Latvian Raimonds Tomsons won the competition for the best sommelier in the world in Paris on Sunday February 12, while the Danish Nina Jensen became the vice-champion for the second consecutive edition of this triennial competition.
“I am extremely happy, I couldn’t imagine a better city than Paris or a better country than France for this title”said the Latvian on the stage of the final, which took place in public in the covered stadium of La Défense Arena at the gates of Paris.
A French woman comes fourth
Less artistic and relaxed, but more precise, Raimonds Tomsons beat Nina Jensen, who impressed spectators with her poise, according to online comments about the contest. The French candidate Pascaline Lepeltier, holder of the titles of best sommelier and best worker in France, came fourth. She participated for the first time in an international competition.
