Beaumont du Perigord is a bastide founded in 1272 by Lucas de Thanay, seneschal of Guyenne In the middle of a hilly landscape, Beaumont du Périgord has only retained of its fortifications pierced by 16 gates the Luzier gate through which one enters the town today . The bastide with its famous fortified church, one of the most beautiful fortified religious buildings in the South West of France, is supplied with water by more than 140 wells. Christophe Garrigue, upholsterer in Beaumont du Périgord tells us another memory, the Paillade festival of the name of the said place. It was July 14 and people were walking down Beaumont. It was a long walk of 2 or 3 km to get there from the village. There was plenty of entertainment for young and old along the Couze.
