The Formula 1 circus is moving to Brazil this weekend to compete in the penultimate stage of the season before heading to Abu Dhabi next week for the final round.
Most drivers appreciate this stopover in the megalopolis of São Paulo, where the atmosphere is magical and the route is rich in twists and turns.
Interlagos is one of those “old school” circuits, like the no less famous Monza (Italy) or Silverstone (Great Britain) in particular.
The place is also known for its rather capricious weather and the 2022 GP should not be an exception to the rule since precipitation is expected during the three days of competition.
We also remember Interlagos, one of the few tracks to be traveled counterclockwise, for its winding portions and its sequences of fast and slower turns.
The first two curves, baptized the “S” of Senna, in honor of the famous Brazilian driver who many consider to be the greatest of all time, are favorable for overtaking.
A sprint race on Saturday
It is also in Brazil that the third and final sprint race of the campaign will take place, which changes the schedule for the weekend.
The qualifying session takes place tomorrow afternoon and the order of finish will determine the starting positions for Saturday’s 100 kilometer race. This year, the first eight finishers will score points (8 to 1).
The result of this race will form the starting grid for the next day’s Grand Prix.
Winner in São Paulo in 2019, Max Verstappen is the favorite on Sunday, he who has won eight of the last nine events on the calendar.
Struggle between Pérez and Leclerc
If the Dutch driver confirmed his title in Japan on October 9 and his team, Red Bull, acquired the Constructors’ Championship, the race is not without interest.
Verstappen’s teammate, the Mexican Sergio Pérez, will try to consolidate his place as runner-up, he who has a slim five-point lead in second place in the cumulative standings ahead of the Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari).
As for Lewis Hamilton, winner in Brazil last year, he only has two races left to reach the top step of the podium. As a reminder, never, during his journey which began in 2007, did he complete a season without a win in F1.
