Kiev, still under Ukrainian control, on Saturday March 5, resists despite the incessant Russian bombardments. About three hundred French people are still stranded in the Ukrainian capital. Three families in particular were able to flee, after going there for a surrogacy.
The appointment was given in the morning, somewhere in Kiev. The French still blocked in the Ukrainian capital were called by the embassy to be evacuated. A huge relief for Julien Courtage, who arrived from Tarbes (Hautes-Pyrénées) ten days ago. “Thursday morning, we woke up to the bombardments. Since then, we have had our daughter who was born on Tuesday”, he says. Inside a small cafeteria, three young mothers, with their infant in their arms, including Laura Courtade, and her little Victoria, who gave birth to a Ukrainian woman barely 48 hours ago. “I came to pick her up. A surrogacy that went very well”said the young woman.
Next door, Manuella Vaidie, and her baby Mila, who has just been born. “I accompanied Natalia, our surrogate mother, for the entire period of the rise of the contractions, I cut the umbilical cord”, describes the French. None of these three women regret their choice, that of having braved the war to recover their child. It is the Ukrainian organizer of these GPA deliveries who gives the starting signal. Loïc Vaidie offers the surrogate mother of his child to welcome him to France. You have to jostle for a place, there won’t be enough for everyone. The three families with their newborns will be able to leave. The convoy heads for the Polish border, a long and perilous journey.
