(Drummondville) By bringing the Parti Québécois to power in 2026, Quebecers will “certainly” experience a third referendum. And it will be their “ultimate chance” to avoid their disappearance, said Paul St-Pierre Plamondon.
“Quebecers must realize that our next meeting with history, because it will take place, is perhaps, in fact very probably, our ultimate chance to give ourselves linguistic and cultural sustainability,” said the leader. PQist Sunday during a speech which essentially focused on the urgency of establishing the sovereignty of Quebec.
Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon attacked the “federal regime”, which he identified as the real adversary of his party.
Our real adversary is the federal political regime which is now openly and explicitly planning our decline.

In recent months, with the Government of Canada has delivered a series of “charges” against Quebec, listed the elected official in front of an audience of 500 activists gathered in the National Council. Mr. Trudeau, he said, launched the “largest sequence of encroachments” in history on Quebec’s areas of jurisdiction. Then the Canadian Prime Minister “abuses his immigration powers” to “destabilize Quebec”.
Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon also cited as an example the refusal of federal elected officials to abolish the oath to the king, while conservative elected officials sang the God save the kingproof of “adherence of this regime and their elected representative to British colonialism”, he denounced.
Disappearance or independence
Faced with this acceleration of history, Quebecers will have two choices: the status quo and “disappearance”, or become “the majority here” by achieving independence.
“This story essentially asks us to choose between two possible destinies. Either we maintain the status of a declining minority in Canada until our disappearance, or we finally become a majority here with the guarantee of linguistic and cultural sustainability,” he told the activists.
“The French fact has no future in this Canadian federation,” said Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon. By remaining in Canada, Quebecers will be “contemporary” with their marginalization.
However, he believes that this fear can become an asset: “we have nothing more to lose” by voting Yes, he summarized. If the Parti Québécois takes power in 2026, “we will indeed experience a third referendum on independence,” promised the PQ leader.
