First meeting on Sunday May 8 for the sprinters on this Giro. Between Kaposvar and Balatonfüred and its 201km, the stage should only be animated by a morning breakaway before giving way to the big thighs of the peloton. The sprinters are expected to be in great shape for a final that should suit them. Despite a small fourth category bump placed 14km from the line, nothing should prevent Caleb Ewan and other Arnaud Démare from raising their arms in the Hungarian city.
Mathieu van der Poel, in great shape after his success on the first stage and his second place in the time trial, dons the leader’s pink jersey and has a good lead. With a finish cut for his qualities as a sprinter, he can once again hope for a good result on this Tour of Italy and ensure his leadership in the general standings for a little longer.
