Furniture prices are rising due to a lack of wood, partly linked to the war between Russia and Ukraine, two wood-exporting countries. OThere is no talk of a shortage yet, but delivery times are getting longer.

With its huge expanses of trees, Russia has the largest forest in the world, which makes this country one of the largest exporters of wood. But the war in Ukraine changes the situation. Due to the embargo against Russia and Belarus, wood deliveries to Europe have been stopped. The furniture sector is therefore under pressure.

At a trader in the Paris suburbs, order books are full, but wood and plywood are increasingly hard to buy. To deliver to its customers, a single solution: find new suppliers. Before the war, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine provided 10% softwoods, such as fir or pine, used in Europe. From now on, all the buyers turn to Sweden or Finland to supply themselves, but the production of these countries is not enough.
