the Kremlin “follows carefully” the rise of far-right parties in Europe and France

Moscow keeps an eye on European and French far-right parties. Monday June 10, the day after a historic victory of the National Rally in France during the European elections, the Kremlin declared that it was following “carefully” the rise of far-right parties, often considered more favorable to Russia, on the Old Continent and in France.

“The majority [au Parlement européen] will be pro-European and pro-Ukrainian (…) but we can see the dynamics of the right-wing parties which are gaining popularity“, noted the spokesperson for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov. “It seems that over time, the right-wing parties will be on their heels [des partis proeuropéens] and we are following this process carefully.”he added.

Regarding France, where Emmanuel Macron called early legislative elections due to the push of the National Rally (RN), Dmitri Peskov said he did not want “interfere in internal affairs” while ensuring that Moscow was also closely monitoring the situation. And all the more so since the French president has become one of the Kremlin’s fiercest critics because of the Russian assault on Ukraine. “We will follow all this carefully, especially as we see the extremely unfriendly, even hostile, attitude of French leaders towards our country”said the spokesperson for the Russian president.

It must be said that the party led by Jordan Bardella has long been considered pro-Russian. If the party has distanced itself from Moscow since the launch of the offensive against Ukraine in February 2022, it criticizes the extent of the support that Emmanuel Macron wants to give to kyiv.
