The Kraken prevail, the Avalanche face elimination

(Denver) Tye Kartye scored on his NHL debut and the Seattle Kraken moved one win away from their first playoff success after beating the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche 3-2 on Wednesday night .


The Kraken take a 3-2 lead in the first-round series and return to Seattle, where they can qualify Friday night in front of their home crowd.

Yanni Gourde and Morgan Geekie scored for the Kraken, who scored first in all five games. Philipp Grubauer stopped 26 shots against his former side.

Nathan MacKinnon scored a goal and Evan Rodrigues another to make it 3-2 with 3:37 remaining, but the Avalanche couldn’t tie the game.

The Kraken were without forward Jared McCann, injured by a blow from Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar in Game 4. Makar could only watch the game and received a one-game suspension from the part of the league.

Alexandar Georgiev made 26 saves for the Avalanche.
