“The King”, the new play by Frédéric Bouchet

Frédéric Bouchet’s new comedy is the shattering encounter of two worlds that are totally ignorant of each other. An inexhaustible source of clumsiness, misunderstandings, drama and bursts of laughter, “The King” is a real success!

The king is dead !

The tiny Kingdom of Walsymund, wedged between Austria, Hungary and Croatia, has just lost its King. Without direct descendants, it is the tyrannical Prime Minister who seized power by force. After months of secret research launched by the aristocracy, we finally discover a legitimate descendant. His name is Paulo, he is French and lives with his wife Paulette in Saint-Roger-La-Rance, near Bordeaux. Countess Poupov is in charge of convincing the future King Paulo I to settle on the throne.

Long live the king !

But Paulo and Paulette are totally unaware of their Royal roots in this faraway country, which moreover nobody knows. Countess Poupov will therefore set to work to make them “presentable”, and this is no small feat as the couple are very far from having the vocabulary, education and allure of a Royal couple! With the little time at her disposal, will Countess Poupov be able to quickly transform two Formica stools into Louis XV armchairs? This is the whole question! On tour in Gironde, with the Théâtre des Salinières troupe, from January 7 to February 25, 2022.
