He chained hits and caused a stir among his groupies. In a conservative America, the singer’s hips are daring. In 2022, the year of the release of a remarkable biopic, passers-by still know his hits and easily sing them. “He’s the pioneer of rock’n’roll, he started a trend and everyone loved it”says a man.
Elvis Presley, son of a farm worker, grew up in Mississippi being fascinated by the gospel. He mixes it with rhythm and blues and country to invent a new kind of music. “He sings black music, like a black”explains Belkacem Bahlouli, editor-in-chief of the magazine RollingStone. Elvis Presley lived simply and was generous. At the end of his life, he lived reclusive and depressed, crushed by glory. His death at the age of 42 propelled him to the status of a timeless legend.
