Russia continues its ground offensive in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city. Russian forces gained further ground on Saturday May 11 and thousands of people were evacuated.

The city of Kharkiv is once again under fire from the Russian army. Residents are forced to leave, helped by volunteers. Located in northeastern Ukraine near the Russian border, Kharkiv has not been hit with such intensity by Vladimir Putin’s army since the withdrawal of its troops in the fall of 2022. Air and land offensives are led by the Russians who seek to contain the army from the East, to prevent them from striking the Russian city of Belgorod.

American aid of 400 million dollars

“Putin has just been re-elected. He has just celebrated the anniversary of the victory. He needs to boost his diplomacy and especially his external image”, explains Bertrand Badie, professor specializing in the Middle East. The Ukrainian President once again asks his allies for help. “It is important that our partners support our soldiers and the stability of our country by providing them with equipment”, asked Volodymyr Zelensky. The United States announced the sending of 400 million dollars to support the Ukrainian army
