The Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, was referred to the Court of Justice of the Republic, Monday, October 3. He is suspected of having taken advantage of his position to settle accounts with magistrates whom he had opposed when he was a lawyer.

The judges of the Court of Justice of the Republic made their decision on Monday, October 3: Eric Dupond Moretti must be tried for illegal taking of interests. The Minister of Justice would have used his position to settle scores with former magistrates he had to deal with when he was a lawyer. Two investigations ordered by the Keeper of the Seals are in question. The first concerns magistrates from the national financial prosecutor’s office who had gone through his telephone bills in a corruption case.

The second investigation reproached to Eric Dupond Moretti concerns an investigating judge posted in Monaco. Eric Dupond Morettiwhen he was still a lawyer, had denounced the methods used by this judge against one of his clients. For Eric’s lawyers Dupond Morettitheir client was simply following the Justice Department’s roadmap. Last week, the Keeper of the Seals ruled out having to resign. MPs are divided on the issue. Eric Dupond Moretti immediately appealed to the Court of Cassation, which suspends the decision of the Court of Justice of the Republic.
