The Junos defend the presence of Arcade Fire among the finalists

Since the unveiling of the Juno nominations on Tuesday, Arcade Fire’s presence in the Group of the Year category has been heavily criticized on social media. The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has defended its choice to include the group despite allegations of sexual misconduct against vocalist Win Butler.

In a statement sent to the CBC and relayed by numerous media, the organization explained that this appointment is intended for the entire group.

“We take the allegations seriously, but in this case we honor the rest of the group for their successes. We hope that these allegations against Win Butler will not overshadow all that the other members of the group have achieved. »

Launched by Arcade Fire in May 2022, the album WE is also a finalist in the Alternative Album of the Year category at the Grammys, whose ceremony takes place this weekend.
